Assay is how purity is established before money moves. At Mawten, that means a non-destructive XRF reading at the branch when requested — with you watching the result.
An X-ray fluorescence beam reads surface metal composition in seconds. It does not scratch the piece. It works on bars, coins, and jewellery. It is a practical branch tool — not a laboratory certificate of every atom in the core.
Investment bars also carry assay certificates and serials that can be matched to the refinery. XRF complements documentation; it does not replace asking to see certificate and serial before you settle.
A test behind a closed door asks you to trust the room. A test in front of you lets you trust the reading. If anyone refuses to let you watch, that refusal is information.
Mawten does not invent certifications we do not hold. We use branch assay and supplier documentation as disclosed — and we put the numbers on paper when you ask.
Pure gold is a soft metal. You can very nearly scratch it with a fingernail. That is why jewellery is not made from it, and it is exactly why bullion is.
